In CNN’s initial story on Hillary Clinton’s victory in the West Virginia Primary, the focus of the coverage was in Hillary position to move forward from the tremendous victory and the gain the win had given to her campaign hopes. The problem with this framework? CNN did not acknowledge that Barack Obama’s delegate lead would only be cut by 16 or so total delegates until the 11th paragraph of the story. Considering that Clinton was forecast to win mightily in West Virginia and that it would not do much to impede Obama’s nomination bid, why would CNN release a story that focussed on Hillary’s forward movement when West Virginia would not tell us anything new?

Because CNN would like to see the Democratic Primary to stay news worthy and keep people tuning on every primary date until the party’s convention this summer.

ESPN is trashing its format for its morning airing of Sportscenter which made both the network and the show so hugely popular to begin with. Instead of airing the same taped version of Sportscenter all morning, ESPN has decided to air three live blocks of Sportscenter daily; the first from 6 am - 9 am, then 9 - noon and noon - 3pm (all times Eastern). Additionally, Hannah Storm, will host the first block, during which will appear highlights, feature stories and interviews. Clearly, ESPN is seeking to emulate the soft morning news programs, like NBC’s Today and ABC’s Good Morning America, and get farther from a no-frills broadcast of all of the previous days sports action.

Sunday’s NY Times Magazine features an interesting article about injuries amongst teenage girl athletes, written by Michael Sokolove. The premise of the article is that girls more frequently suffer serious injuries while playing sports compared to boys that play comparable sports (basically any sport except football). Several anatomical and biological reasons are giving as to why female athletes more frequently tear their A.C.L. or get a concussion than males do. Mostly I enjoyed the article because it takes the unpopular stance that men and women are not the same and can not do everything precisely a like due to natural differences between the sexes.

Full disclosure, this story came from someone I know working on a Democratic Primary campaign team in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and is true as far as I know it. He told me that during last week’s Early Vote period, in which people can both register and vote during the full week preceding May 6th’s primary, he and other campaign workers were sent out to various locales to pick up voters. Nothing unusual about that.
After my friend returned to the poll from his round of pickups, he saw another campaign worked also had returned to polls with a van full of voters. This worker though arrived back at the polls with roughly a dozen mentally-challenged people from a community for the mentally-impaired.

Lil’ Wayne is the most dynamic musical act I have ever seen. I think that would be the best starting point to this post, as I have never seen one person captivate an audience the way Lil’ Wayne did in Winston-Salem on Saturday. Seeing Lil’ Wayne in 2008 is as close as one can get to seeing James Brown in his prime, because the experience far surpasses the music (the songs are pretty good too however).

Sunday evening, I was walking over to my aunt’s house to have dinner for my mom’s birthday. Normally, I would drive to Aunt Laura’s house but a few environmental articles I had read earlier in the day made me feel guilty about starting the car to travel only 3/4 of a mile from home. I took the walk and used the 10 minutes to return some missed call.

About seven minutes into my walk and during a phone conversation with my friend Joey, a white Honda Civic passes me slowly, with both the girl driving the car and the guy riding shotgun observing me. The car drives past me and uses the intersection ahead to pull a U-turn and comes back towards me, slowly approaching me with the intent of asking me something. I put the phone down and leave Joey on the line and enter into this conversation

Recently, former Heisman Trophy winner and overall super athlete Herschel Walker spoke about his battle with dissociate identity disorder (DID), more commonly known as multiple personality disorder. This helps to explain Walker’s deep backgrounds and accomplishments in areas outside of football, including bobsledding (an Olympian in 1992), tae kwon doe (sixth degree blackbelt) and study of both ballet and law enforcement. Furthermore, Walker alternate personalities cause for lapses in his memory, such as not remembering his Heisman Trophy winning season of 1982 while at Georgia. Based on his alternate personalities proclivity towards overachievement and his inability to remember his actions, TheBocker.com has hypothesized other possible accomplishment and exploits of the many Herschel Walkers.

The New York Yankees have played six games thus far this season and have netted a total of 17 runs, a smidge under 3 per game. For Yankees teams of the past few seasons, 3 runs a game would have lead to an 0-6 record after 6 games. However the 2008 Yankees are currently 3-3 largely because they’ve protected tight leads from the 7th inning on.
