CNN Looks To Keep Democratic Primary Going

May 17, 2008 · No Comments

In CNN’s initial story on Hillary Clinton’s victory in the West Virginia Primary, the focus of the coverage was in Hillary position to move forward from the tremendous victory and the gain the win had given to her campaign hopes. The problem with this framework? CNN did not acknowledge that Barack Obama’s delegate lead would only be cut by 16 or so total delegates until the 11th paragraph of the story. Considering that Clinton was forecast to win mightily in West Virginia and that it would not do much to impede Obama’s nomination bid, why would CNN release a story that focussed on Hillary’s forward movement when West Virginia would not tell us anything new?

Because CNN would like to see the Democratic Primary to stay news worthy and keep people tuning on every primary date until the party’s convention this summer.

“$4 a gallon? It will never happen.”

May 16, 2008 · No Comments

This is a funny article on old style pumps that can’t be changed to display prices over $3.99.  Why is can’t the dollar slot go up to $9 instead of $3? Because nobody thought gas would ever be this expensive.  Of course in this country a quarter of the population lives in 1920s conditions.  In some parts of South Carolina they are just getting the Cotton Gin.

Hank’s A Chump

May 16, 2008 · No Comments

Hank

Recently I’ve been reading about Hank Steinbrenner’s current dissatisfaction with the play of the New York Yankees.  I could somewhat understand his displeasure but his attacks on young pitchers Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy seemed low and his uber expectations unrealistic.  But to get the final decision I had to turn to our Yankees expert Anthony to get his opinion on the whole situation.  What follows are his thoughts.

In recent years, Olympic gold has been reserved for those cheaters who are sneaky enough to avoid detection.  No longer, says the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Glen Rice’s Fiery Marriage

May 15, 2008 · No Comments

Glen Rice with Wife

Now, this is an old story, but I thought it was good enough to rehash for a second or two. I don’t know much about it but the story is fantastic just for quotes like this in reference to Glen’s playing time with the Lakers: “She (Glen’s wife Christina) ranted that if she was in Glen’s shoes, it would have been “Latrell Sprewell II” - kind of like what her estranged husband just did to her house visitor.” The full article is below.

Bill O’Reilly Freaks Out

May 15, 2008 · No Comments

Bill O\'Reilly Is Dreamy

Anthony brought this to my attention recently and I felt it was too good not to post on the site. I never knew O’Reilly had such great hair. It’s like a piece of art on the top of his head. Something that tomes should be written about. I wish I could say I was surprised by this meltdown but I’ve always known that Bill O’Reilly was a doosh. For some reason I can’t embed the video. Apparently I’m a doosh for sucking at the internet.

ESPN Turns Sportscenter into Sports Morning America

May 14, 2008 · 2 Comments

ESPN is trashing its format for its morning airing of Sportscenter which made both the network and the show so hugely popular to begin with. Instead of airing the same taped version of Sportscenter all morning, ESPN has decided to air three live blocks of Sportscenter daily; the first from 6 am - 9 am, then 9 - noon and noon - 3pm (all times Eastern). Additionally, Hannah Storm, will host the first block, during which will appear highlights, feature stories and interviews. Clearly, ESPN is seeking to emulate the soft morning news programs, like NBC’s Today and ABC’s Good Morning America, and get farther from a no-frills broadcast of all of the previous days sports action.

Spygate Over?

Moustache Belichick

Read a great reaction to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s announcement today that he learned nothing new from former Patriots employee Matt Walsh.  In case your forgot, Walsh is the man that was hired by the Patriots early in the Belichick era to video tape opposing team’s offensive and defensive play calls during games.  This whole situation has smelled like a cover up from the start on the part of Roger Goodell and the NFL.

Hill-Dog Loved in West Virginia

May 13, 2008 · 2 Comments

It’s articles like this that I’ll just never understand.  CNN.com, along with most other media outlets, love stories like this where they plant the seeds of doubt in the minds of the delegates as far as Barack Obama’s electability.  According to the article a big win in West Virginia would mean that Hillary is the better candidate for the Democratic Party.  This is based on exit polls that found that 35% of Clinton supporters in the state would vote for John McCain in the general election.

Why are articles like this bad? Because they’re pointless.  So what if Clinton wins West Virginia? As it currently stands Obama has control of the popular vote and the Democratic candidate is supposed to be chosen by the delegates anyway.  It doesn’t really matter who wins the popular vote or what exit polls say.  All that matters is who wins the superdelegates.  Not to mention, how does winning a state like West Virginia mean anything in the long run.  In the general election the number of electoral votes you get from West Virginia is minimal compared to states like Florida, New York, California and Texas.  You just can’t tell me that West Virginians reflect the the minds and opinions of the country as a whole.  They are one state.  A state that is not nearly as diverse as Texas or California.  I’m just sick and tired of Hillary Clinton’s excuses for staying in the race and the media’s buying into her fantastical reasoning.

Men and Women Aren’t Equal.

May 11, 2008 · 3 Comments

Sunday’s NY Times Magazine features an interesting article about injuries amongst teenage girl athletes, written by Michael Sokolove.  The premise of the article is that girls more frequently suffer serious injuries while playing sports compared to boys that play comparable sports (basically any sport except football).   Several anatomical and biological reasons are giving as to why female athletes more frequently tear their A.C.L. or get a concussion than males do.   Mostly I enjoyed the article because it takes the unpopular stance that  men and women are not the same and can not do everything precisely  a like due to natural differences between the sexes.
