“OMG! I found this girl on Yahoo messenger, and she got wild on cam, you have to see it to believe it. She shows anyone, Message flirtygirl8821 on Yahoo.”
This message was wallposted to me 4 times last night on my facebook.com profile. All from girls. Girls that I have not really spoken to in a minute. They got facebook profile viruses, as no other explanation could be concocted for this occurrence.
With the advent of facebook applications, it was just a matter of time before someone began to spread spam/smut viruses via facebook. The use of the public, bulletin-board stylized, facebook wall as the means to spread mucks up the whole wall dynamic. The facebook wall was the perfect medium to talk about the inside joke, the secret crush or the drunken night out. It let everyone else know that you and the wall postee had something that something going on that was covert, sketchy and sensational. The facebook wall was the perfect place to post the message to someone that everyone was to see yet no one else was to really understand.
Now, someone with a personal vendetta against Mark Zuckerburg and all of those really salacious people with the inside secrets they publicly flaunted decided that the wall had to come down. With wall postings filling up with spam posts with a web address to “improve your performance” or to “get rich using Johnson’s non-Pyramid Scheme Method”, no one will care to read through wall postings to check out who is flirting with who and who else had a night so crazy that a new inside joke could be alluded to publicly on the wall.

There is much wisdom here. It is sad, but so true. Thanks for spreading the word.
